Inner Tube Rubber Bands

The cheapest way to get your hands on some ranger bands is to find an old punctured bicycle tire strip out the inner tube and cut it into segments failing that free option you can purchase inner tubes from a local sporting goods store or bike shop or buy pre cut packs of ranger bands for 10 or less from companies like wazoo survival gear or gearward.

Some times called ranger bands these bands can be made from waste that you may have laying around the garage if you are a biker or have kids who bike then there is a good chance you have an old bicycle inner tube laying around. One 26x1 5 2 0 tube will make two 2 rubber band balls. This is then interwoven with another set of 3 looped bands. The rubber bands are connected together using 3 rubber bands looped over the ends of each other to create a long band.

This is normal and will not affect the rubber band performance but may not look so good. For this project i used 26 x 1 5 2 0 standard wall inner tubes. The butyl rubber that makes up inner tubes should also last a lot longer than most modern latex rubber bands. Older tubes may develop a skin that rubs off due to ageing of the rubber.
